In the beginner series, Luca taught you all about tension and release over the 5-1 section of the progression with highly accessible playing ideas. In this intermediate section, he’s adding in that infamous 2 chord to the mix, and dialling up the challenge factor a little more to keep you learning and on your toes!
The essence of this volume is to guide you through the process of gaining familiarity with the 2-5-1 progression, building up your fretboard visualisation and confidence while extending your 2-5-1 soloing vocabulary!
As before, Luca’s masterclass PDF serves as the core lesson material. This is where he breaks down the walls between you and the jazz theory and teaches you everything you need to know to tackle the material you’ll be covering.
During the exercises you’ll learn all of the modes in 5 shapes, take scales through each section of the chord progression, learn the ‘ins and outs’ of targeting chord tones within 2-5-1s and also work on how various pentatonic scales can be used to create interesting melodic 2-5-1 ideas!
After the 70 exercises you’ll be moving onto Luca’s highly creative licks that are designed to use everything you’ve covered in a real word example. You’ll also be working with the addition of an altered VI chord (a common addition to the 2-5-1 progression) so that we’ve got you covered with some ideas for when that inevitably comes up too!
Once you feel you’ve got a strong grip on the exercises and licks it’s time to move onto Luca’s final solo! This is where we piece it all together and essentially try to ‘forget’ everything we’ve learned! Why?… because by now the 2-5-1 should be quite ingrained into your playing. The goal isn’t for people to know you’re playing a ‘2-5-1 solo’, it’s to create real music - and sound like you know what you’re doing in the process!
As ever, we have included everything you need to practise and perfect the material in this package. There are video and audio tracks for you to watch/listen and study, accurately transcribed TAB/notation for you to analyse and master, and backing tracks for everything!
So if you’ve started route towards the more jazzier side of fusion music, and are looking to take things up a notch then this is going to be essential learning material for you and your playing!
