Structured around three unique solos, this JTC debut will broaden your horizons and help you summon melodies using techniques from across the playing spectrum. Channel death metal, pop, djent, rock, gypsy jazz, baroque music and more.
Shift your perspective from looking at playing in one particular style, and view soloing as a multi-genre artform with your influences as the driving force.
From Necrohagist to Bach and Marco Sfogli to Emil Werstler, Mendel has leant on his influences, infused it with his own way of playing, and that’s what you will learn to do too. As you dissect each solo, you’ll be challenged to understand a huge swathe of technical ideas that will become your universal language.
Grace slides, harmonics, pull-offs, palm-muted 16th notes and the full suite of picking techniques are just a handful of the skills you’ll encounter. On the approach side, you’ll encounter spicy triplets, accenting the upbeat, Japanese scales, Balkan melodies and lines built around the use of octaves.
Each of the three solos has been broken down into isolated licks, allowing you to hone in on every note, focus on important fingering variation and dig into subtle touches that will help you improve your articulation and dynamics.
The end result is a wider selection of ideas, with a broader vocabulary built on a solid foundation of musicality.
This release includes PDF study guide, 3 solos and backings, 29 licks, full tab/notation and GP files.
Expansive Soloing is a vividly creative debut that brings together a diverse world of influences and challenges you to do the same. Want to harness your influences? Mendel’s going to show you how.
